Upon breaking from the mind control, learning the actual Christian message was exciting! Sooner or later that pesky logic creeped into those beliefs as well.... There were still so many problems!Flawed logic... Not to mention, a depper study of the bible revealed more and more inconsistencies. A supreme deity should be able to leave us a book that isn't written in riddles. One that doesnt require the reader to overlook so many atrocities, or see uncomfortable things as "symbolic."
I then begged God to prove himself to me. Prove it! prove ANYTHING supernatural at all, and I might be able to swallow the whole thing.
A study of Earth and life's origins sealed the deal for me.
There almost certainly is no God. If I want to see a "god," I see it in humanity and it's ability to improve as a whole over time. One could hardly see that as a god though.

I saw dead people
by thecrushed init has been a year now since the big breakdown in which i lost my belief system and almost lost my marriage too.
i now look back and realize how close i came to completely losing my mind.
all the evidence proves to me beyond a shadow of any possible doubt that i have been raised in a cult and that every single decision or indecision has been directly influenced from this fanatical belief system.

How long did you keep rooting for Walter White?
by slimboyfat inisn't this guy like the greatest anti-hero of all time?.
as the series wears on it is getting more and more difficult to sympathise with the guy.
but i must admit i stuck with him pretty far.

Awesome acting by Brian Cranston. He changes and grows the character as time goes on. I'll admit, they almost lost me after the fly episode. Seriously... He chased that damn fly around the lab for almost the whole episode?!? What a waste of film. Other than that.. Awesome. I am finding it hard to sympathize now. He's become so cold. After they shot that kid Jesse was all broken up, Walt just shook it off.

Public talk today on evolution today - real doozy
by Comatose innotes:.
bible says god created us.
scientific principle says - simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

Oh god how did you do it?! Did anyone in the crowd look like they were listening to bullshit?
One good thing from a talk like that is how some might talk about it after... Allowing a chance to slip in some FACTS. Not an all out debate, just point out some holes in buddy's absolutely horrible lines of reasoning.
Don't all out say creation is horse shit, just plant a little seed. A dissonance seed haha

Dating as a JW
by BU2B inthe jws have a way of either eliminating or making miserable the things most people find to be highlights of their lives.
when i started dating my now wife, and yes i married the first person i ever dated at age 19 by the way, what should have been a great time became mostly miserable.
her parents didnt make it any easier.

JWs make dating tedious, when it should be fun. That's why many just date under the radar for a while. As soon as its official, EVERYONE is up in your business, asking when's the wedding, etc. ridiculous. My wife and I dated for 2 years before getting married. We were alone all the time together, and did many things that would make an elder blush ;). My point is it is possible for smart dubs to date while ignoring the pressures from people around them.
The couples that give in to the pressure and get married too fast, too young etc often end up with unhappy marriages. There are ways around it. Unfortunately most aren't able to think for themselves.

Which is your favourite single malt Scotch Whisky, and why?
by lifelong humanist inas a true scot, i'm deeply passionate about most things scottish, any possibly one of our small nation's most successful export is my main favourite - our single malt whisky heritage.. i'm writing this while savouring a 12 year old highland park - distilled in the orkney islands, the most northerly distillery in scotland.
it is one of my favourites - it was my late father's favourite tipple.
yet, only 500m from my house is scotlands oldest legal whisky distillery - glenturret, in crieff.

I was about to start a thread just like this, and figured this thread deserved a resurrection bump.
This very moment I am sipping from a Glencairn glass a wee dram of my current favourite malt... Aberlour A'bunadh. Batch #37. Cask strength. Damn it's good! Floral and fruity on the nose with a bit of caramel. Heavy but sweet taste with a looooooooooooooong finish. I know it's 8:00 am... Don't judge! I just came home from a night shift.
My other faves are Aberlour 12, Macallan 12,18 and 21 fine oak. Glenfarclas 25, Dalmore 12 and Oban 14.
Im not really one for the peated scotches but I'm trying to get into them... I have Lagavulin 16 and Laphroaig Quarter Cask.. They're tasty, but I can only have so much.
Do some people just like peaty scotches right away or does it take time? I feel like I'm missing out on something not loving the Islays.

I think Mickey Mouse's post spells out why it takes some of us longer than others. The fallout can be huge, and if there is a chance of bringing out at least one loved one it is worth it to stay in as long as needed. Personally I am already playing catch up with my wife for some mistakes I've made in the past year... And if there's any hope of waking her up my quitting meetings altogether would likely squash that chance. Plus, then it's public. It will invoke the cult personality of every one of your close friends and family whenever they think of you... Not exactly ideal conditions for waking people up.
We can do so much more damage to the WT from the inside. Personally I go to about 1-2 meetings a month. I work shift work, so people just assume I'm working.
I think we'll all know when the time is right.

conscious of my spiritual need, what next?
by stillhurts inso once you leave, what next?
have you found anything from a spiritual standpoint that brings you happiness and satisfaction?.
have you been so scarred by the teaching that "all religions are wrong", that you can't see the truth anywhere?.

Spend some time learning about the origins of the earth and life on earth.
Then let go of religion and god! Then you can stop trying to make sense of an old story book. Written in riddles, full of myths.
